Why are we so backward?

The middle east was once a land of very educated people. Read your own history. Religious fundamentalists took over the land, took rights away from women, so they could no longer get an education, and decimated the countries. There is only one way for them to come out of it and that is for young men of future generations to not follow in the footsteps of their fathers.
